How to grow strawberries hydroponically

Fragaria Γ— ananassa

Strawberries suit coir and some vertical systems. Choose cultivars for your climate and monitor roots and pests.

Feed schedule (NaO 3-part)

Mix order: always MICRO β†’ stir β†’ GROW β†’ stir β†’ BLOOM. Values are mL per litre of fresh reservoir water. Never mix undiluted concentrates.

EC values are general crop references, not verified outcomes of the stated NaO dose. Measure the mixed solution; contact us if it falls outside your crop’s requirements. Maintain NaO hydroponic tank pH at 5.5–6.0.

Why growers love it

  • Choose cultivars for the local growing season
  • Suitable for fresh fruit production
  • Vertical layouts use planting sites at different heights; light and flow need checking

Watch out for

  • Cool-loving β€” day temps above 28 Β°C reduce fruiting
  • Spider mites and aphids need active monitoring

Build a practical growing routine

Choose appropriate planting material

Select cultivars and planting material for local conditions and the intended harvest season. Day-neutral and seasonal-bearing types do not share an identical calendar. Keep the crown at the appropriate planting position and avoid persistent saturation around it. Check drainage at every site.

Vertical growing reduces floor-space use but does not guarantee equal light, airflow or irrigation at every level. Inspect upper and lower planting sites separately. Runner management and flower handling require cultivar-specific advice and cannot be inferred from the bottle names.

Protect fruit quality

Inspect leaves for pests and fruit for soft or mouldy areas, especially in dense canopies. Remove damaged material carefully and keep harvest equipment clean. Record fruit quality as well as growth. Consistent water delivery, measured water quality and healthy roots are more informative than an assumed increase in fertilizer strength.

Understand your source water and readings

Source water already contains dissolved substances. Its pH, electrical conductivity (EC) and alkalinity describe different things: pH measures acidity or alkalinity at that moment, EC indicates overall dissolved-ion concentration, and alkalinity helps explain resistance to pH adjustment. A high pH alone does not identify the substances in the water. Water analysis is particularly useful when a reservoir repeatedly drifts or plants develop persistent symptoms.

Measure water before mixing and the solution afterwards with calibrated meters. EC cannot confirm individual nutrient concentrations, the bottle ratio or an independent nutrient assay. Crop EC references are not guaranteed outcomes of the Nana Organics dose. Check your measurements and request crop-specific advice if the mixed solution is unsuitable. Record readings at a consistent time and note water additions, weather and irrigation changes alongside them.

Look after the roots and water delivery

Roots require water, oxygen and suitable temperatures as well as mineral nutrients. Confirm that flow reaches every plant, drains remain clear and aeration works where the system requires it. A pump running in the reservoir does not prove that all emitters or planting pockets receive water. Protect the solution from light, inspect tanks and lines for algae or biofilm, and remove plant debris.

Clean equipment between crops and follow equipment and disinfectant labels for dilution, contact time, protective equipment and rinsing. Do not improvise peroxide, bleach or pesticide treatments in a live reservoir. Leaf yellowing, wilting and brown roots can have multiple causes. Persistent or rapidly spreading symptoms warrant qualified advice, not repeated fertilizer additions.
